Dear Friends of Cecil Lacrosse,
It’s been a long year in anticipation of the start of our third full season of a true county-wide lacrosse league
in Cecil County. This year promises to be yet another spectacular year of growth for our league.
We have some incredible things happening this year, which we are proud to share with you.
First and foremost, we are proud to be fully aligned with an incredible organization, The Positive Coaching Alliance
(www.positivecoach.org). Positive Coaching Alliance is a nonprofit organization founded at Stanford University with the mission
to transform youth sports so sports can transform youth. PCA was created to transform the culture of youth sports to give
all young athletes the opportunity for a positive, character-building experience.
PCA has three national goals:
- Replace the "win-at-all-cost" model of coaching
with the Double-Goal Coach®, who wants to win but has a second, more important, goal of using sports to teach life
lessons;
- Teach youth sports organization leaders how to create an organizational culture
in which Honoring the Game is the norm; and
- Spark and fuel a "social
epidemic" of Positive Coaching that will sweep this country.
Over
the course of the 2009 season, you will be hearing and seeing some of the PCA tools being used with our players, coaches,
officials and parents. We hope that you will Honor The Game, through supporting our PCA efforts.
As for the other great pre-season stories to share with you;
·
We have close to 200 boys and
girls registered to play this spring, and even more are being registered as this letter gets posted.
· We have over 20 coaches and volunteers helping us grow the
league, which means even more individual attention to our players in practice and in games.
· We will be continuing with our incredibly popular Soft Sticks
program, geared towards boys and girls, ages 5 and 6, in April. Our current coaches, along with some of
our older boys and girls will be helping to share the fun of this great sport with the younger kids in the county.
Whether you are a player, a parent of a new player, or a parent of a returning player, we
hope that this season will be rewarding, refreshing and enjoyable!
All the best,
Mario
